Opt-in Emails. This is an interesting subject. Back in the newsgroup days this was VERY popular, in 1991 groups were started with a varity of subjects ranging from "How to cook" to "Pets" to "Adult Topics" From the trend of the net I thought that they had died... Now I took a look at then again and come to find out that THOUSANDS of new groups have been started and that this is a great place to advertise. So I did some research... I started at the root places and located the groups, Signed up for all the groups on my personal e-mail account and was I ever flooded with messages! I would not wish this on anyone. its a bitch to filter the crap, So I canceled the subscription, Made all new accounts using a special e-mail account and started the submissions again. Here is some of the things that I have found with the opt-in mails. * You can not get hit with SPAM, this is great, because I am part of a group.. I know these people, they are asking for messages from me. * The lists are targeted so if your selling "Pet Products" we can hit pet owners. This is a real plus because 20,000 quality pet owner e-mail addresses can be worth more than 50 million general addresses. Maybe pets was a bad example because its possible that anyone can have a pet, but a special item like.... ehh "UNIX SOFTWARE" A targeted list would be worth much more. * Its fast! I can send out 4.5 million ads out in about 2 hours. I have all the accounts set up and all the filters in place. All that is needed is an e-mailed copy of the text that you would like to send. In the future I would like to have basic e-mail writing tips & a listing of all the groups that I post to online. This page is updated all the time, Check back often.
